Better SAT Flashcards (Words in context)

This article contains an improved flashcards app for learning SAT that teaches words in context, rather than rote memorization.

Vocabulary questions on the SAT aren’t the simple kind where you just pick the correct meaning of a word. Instead, they check how well you understand words in context, that is, whether you know not just what a word means, but how it fits naturally into a sentence or situation.

Simply memorising word lists doesn’t help much because a word’s meaning can change slightly depending on how it’s used. Its tone, feeling, or nuance can shift from one sentence to another.

That’s exactly why we created this flashcards app for SAT. It helps you learn words through real examples and context, making it far more effective than most other vocabulary tools available online.

The app also supports keyboard shortcuts: left/right arrows for previous/next and space bar for flipping, but be sure to click on the app first to use keyboard shortcuts.

How to use these flashcards for learning SAT words

For maximum retention, you should NOT learn these words alphabetically. Instead, you’d want to shuffle them first. Learning words alphabetically feels like reading a phonebook and surely, that’s no fun job.

Try to recall the meaning of a word first and only then flip the card. Read the example sentence and if that doesn’t make the meaning sink in, click on the + Show more button and read more sentences.

The notes section at the bottom on the back of the card also contains some very useful information that will likely help you retain the meanings for much longer. Don’t miss them either.

I am continuously updating the list with more relevant words, so bookmark this page for future reference.

Learning vocabulary isn’t hard. Its only hard because people don’t know the correct way to learn it.

Learn words in context and see how your scores skyrocket within a short period of time.

Thanks and best of luck!
